Bio:
Tegan hails from the Silicon Valley and has taught in Indonesia, France, and the United States. Her undegraduate thesis addressed gender and authorship in Tahar Ben Jelloun’s L’Enfant de Sable and La Nuit sacrée and her Master’s thesis, a translation of Assia Djebar’s Oran, langue morte, was published by Seven Stories Press and was awarded the PEN Translation Fund Grant. She has also been the recipient of a grant from the American Literary Translators Association and has been a translator-in-residence at the Banff Literary Translation Centre and the Centre International des Traducteurs Littéraires. She translates from French and German into English.
Research:
Tegan's research interests include: French and Francophone Studies, Visual Culture, and Translation
Tegan’s current research examines the impact of interlingual and intersemiotic translations on fairy tale traditions in French, German, and English. In The Enchantments of Influence, she identifies the potential for translations to create new sequences of literary influence across various languages and literatures. She conducted research in Paris for two years and was also a research fellow at the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany.
Projects:
Tegan makes ongoing contributions to The Encyclopedia of Diderot & d’Alembert Collaborative Translation Project (University of Michigan). She recently translated the memoir Aus dem Leben eines Phoenix by Isabelle Müller and has been involved in Ms. Müller’s foundation, the LOAN Stiftung, which creates initiatives to improve access to education in Vietnam.
