Teaching Through Translation: The Poetry Inside Out Program

In this hour-long seminar, Mark Hauber (Center for the Art of Translation, San Francisco) will discuss his work with the Poetry Inside Out (PIO) Program. PIO is a collaborative, cross-cultural language arts program built around activities that require and cultivate dialogue, listening, co-construction, and careful consideration of meaning. The program generates a dynamic and constructivist learning environment based on the cultural and linguistic experiences that students bring with them to school every day. Mark will discuss this dynamic program and how teaching students to translate poetry from around the world.

Mark Hauber has over 30 years’ experience in non-profit and public education. A graduate of the Boston College’s Lynch School of Education, he holds two master’s degrees in education. At the Center for the Art of Translation, he has established national programming partnerships with universities and educational organizations and founded the Center’s PIO Teaching Fellowship Program.
